Funk It Up

Funk It Up remains my most popular recording to date, and has also been successfully rearranged for live performances. This record is also the first appearance of 'Mr Size', the fictional American voice-over character who has since reappeared on the 'Seven Wonders Of The World' mini-album.

Oh Mistress Mine

In 2002 I set the songs of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night for the Southampton University Theatre Group. Unusually they requested that the songs be set in a style reminiscent of 20s/30s American jazz! This clip is from one of the draft tracks laid down in the studio to help the Feste character learn the songs. Click to read and hear more.

SIMMRA

Yet another change of style, SIMMRA is built around the big sound of the four bar bass-riff that starts the tune. Perhaps surprisingly considering it's chilled mood, this record was conceived in a moment of anger! The process of recording it went a long way towards calming me down.

That's What Nature's About

Taken from the 'Seven Wonders Of The World' mini-album, this record boasts an unusual rhythmic feel. Over complex string harmony, the gentle humour of the voice-overs also has a serious point to make about our relationship with the environment. Find out about the rest of 'Seven Wonders Of The World' here.

Bosh Isa

Written in a made up language that very few people understand, this is the Umfaloan National Anthem! Where is Umfaloa?.. I hear you ask. Umfaloa is a fictional island in the South Pacific, invaded and abandoned by many musical cultures, and home of the Coconut Scratch Orchestra. Visit the C.S.O. page here.

The Infocrap Avalanche

Also taken from the 'Seven Wonders Of The World' mini-album, this record conjures images of the storm of information hurtling across the World Wide Web. Find out about the rest of the album here.

Where Does It Come From?

One of my pet projects is to change the general perception of the recorder as a dull, squeaky, "primary school instrument". It can be one of the most cheerful, bright sounds in music. Once you've heard the recorder like this you won't think of it the same way again!
